“Bolaño Archive: 1977-2003”

Bolaño Archive 1977–2003” is a CCCB exhibition inaugurated on March 2013. It presents the creative chronology of Roberto Bolaño when he settled in Catalonia in 1977, until he passed away in 2003

Juan Insua, one of the curators, asked me to do a video montage that greets visitors to the exhibition.

We took into account that somehow the end of the exhibition had to interlace with the beginning. The last video, made by Toni Curcó, had a kaleidoscopic cascade of footage that suggested a tunnel. We decided to encorporate it into the first video, as a way to bridge both parts.

Bolaño’s preoccupation with state power and repression was fed by scenes like Pinochet coup in 1973, the student massacre in Tlatelolco in 1968 and the Hitler rally. Therefore the kaleidoscopic tunnel was filled with these historical images.
